World Health Organization Declares the End of the COVID Global Emergency

Hey Compliance Warriors!

The WHO has announced the end of the COVID international public health emergency.

“While acknowledging the remaining uncertainties posted by potential evolution of SARS-CoV-2, they advised that it is time to transition to long-term management of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The WHO Director-General concurs with the advice offered by the Committee regarding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. He determines that COVID-19 is now an established and ongoing health issue which no longer constitutes a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).”

As we know, President Biden has set May 11th as the official end of the public health emergency in the U.S. So, it looks like we are officially in the phase of living with COVID-19 as an ongoing health issue (similar to the flu) that must be managed in a similar manner.

Employers will want to maintain communicable disease policies and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.
